BUJU BANTON TO PERFORM CLOSING NIGHT OF RED STRIPE REGGAE SUMFEST IN MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA THIS WEEKEND

- New Studio Album Too Bad Set for Release September 12th 2006 -

(Kingston, JA – 19, July 2006) Hometown favorite Buju Banton is expected to bring down the house when he performs closing night at the 14th Annual Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest being held this weekend in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Touted as “Jamaica’s Greatest, The World’s Best,” Saturday’s grand finale line-up will also feature sets from longtime Banton collaborator Beres Hammond, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, Cari-pop princess Rihanna, plus international rap stars Missy Elliott and 50 Cent.

Buju Banton and The Shiloh Band will juggle selections from his extensive catalog of reggae classics as well as debut new songs from the forthcoming dancehall album Too Bad, which is scheduled to hit stores in the US and Canada September 12th 2006 on Gargamel Music, Inc. The label is being distributed in North America by Tommy Boy Distribution.

Last month, Gargamel Music, Inc. dropped an exclusive 12” featuring two scorching singles from the new album. “Fast Lane” is a classy track that boasts a more reflective Buju chatting lyrical verse over an unconventional riddim steeped in jazzy, rare grooves. “Nothing,” produced by Banton and his Gargamel production crew, is a hardcore dancehall gem sure to please club-goers worldwide.

Chart-wise, “Nothing” has re-entered BBC 1Xtra’s Top 10 Dancehall Chart at #8 while his retro-styled “Me & Oonu” on Danja Zone’s Wipe Out riddim sits pretty at #3. “Nothing” has also moved up two slots to #24 while “Talk To Me” remains at #11 on Jamaica’s Weekly Top 30 Singles hosted by Richie B on Hot 102 FM. Buju’s ferocious “Tilly Ben Ben” looks Top 10 bound, jumping from #18 to #14 on RETV’s Dancehall Chart.
